Weekend Away
The challenge of being able to live ‘lives of faith’ in this 21st century is what is at the heart of our ministry at Holy Trinity. To help us in this we have study groups that run throughout the year, linking in with other courses - often ecumenical - at Advent and Lent.
For younger members there are two groups that meet on Sunday mornings, joining the rest of the congregation in church mid-way through the Eucharist. For the 11-14s on a Sunday evening we have ‘Rock Solid’, run jointly with Millhouses Methodist Church.
In alternate years we hold a parish weekend away - in recent years at Sneaton Castle, Whitby - to give an opportunity for prayer, discussion and renewal.
All of this has to be rooted in prayer, and we try very hard to be people of prayer - a ‘praying community’.
For Advent 2008 we are recommending the use of "In All Senses" by John Cox. This small book suggests a reading, a reflection, a response and a prayer for each day. You could use it in conjunction with the advent calendar if you have children. Exploring the significance of Christ’s birth through all our senses, as suggested by John Cox, will help us to prepare our hearts and minds for the true significance of Christmas.
