The Organ

The organ is a particularly fine one. It was built by Kenneth Tickell of Northampton in 1991 and was the first organ he had built which was fitted within an existing chancel chamber and this works well due to the exceptional acoustics of the church building. Kenneth Tickell graduated from Hull University in 1978 and established his organ building company in 1982. Since then the firm has become one of the leading organ builders in this country. He was a founder member and the first President of the Institute of British Organ Building, the professional body for organ builders in this country.

The Italianate style of this organ is designed to complement the neo Romanesque architecture of the church. The casework is of English Oak, with front pipes of polished tin and carved Limewood pipeshades on a Celtic theme. The keyboards are overlaid with Blackwood and Bone. An item of interest to the congregation is the fact that the design of the pipeshades was changed before installation to incorporate a crossover in the scrollwork at the top of the screen in order to form a symbolic 'H'. This was done by the builder at the request of one or two of the congregation to acknowledge the drive and inspiration of the then incumbent, the Revd. Ron Howell, who was largely responsible for Holy Trinity acquiring such a fine instrument. Ron was the last person to seek any recognition and this symbol was incorporated without his knowledge.

For the technically minded, the organ has tracker action with mechanical stop and slider soundboards. The Great organ keyboard has six stops, the Swell organ keyboard has five stops and the Pedal organ has two 16ft. stops:
