2010 Annual Report

Church Wardens and PCC

Two churchwardens and two deputy wardens are elected each year at the Annual Parochial Church Meeting (APCM). They work as a team, and the usual pattern is for one of the churchwardens to retire each year, one of the deputies to move up to churchwarden, and a new deputy warden to be added to the team. This ensures that duties and responsibilities can be shared, that many members of the congregation have past experience of the role - and that no-one stays in office for too long! The current churchwardens (until the Spring of 2012) are John Savournin and Eric Lacey, and the deputy wardens are Jo Hutchesson and Colin Gore.

The Parochial Church Council (PCC) has a responsibility to work with the Vicar in the administration of the Parish. It is chaired by the Vicar, and one of the churchwardens has traditionally served as Lay Vice-Chairman. In addition to its various ex-officio and co-opted members, the PCC has 12 directly elected members: four are elected each year at the APCM, serve for three years, and then stand down for a minimum of a year. As with the churchwardens, this ensures that, over time, many of the congregation have had an opportunity to serve - and it means that the PCC can often benefit from the experience and advice of relative newcomers to the congregation. The PCC now meets four times a year.

Much of the day-to-day work of the PCC is managed by sub-committees responsible for Finance, Fabric & Grounds, the Church Hall, the Parish Centre, Mission, Outreach and the Trio Magazine. Every member of the PCC is expected to serve on at least one of these sub-committees, and there is scope for others who are not on the PCC itself to contribute their ideas and experience as co-opted members of a sub-committee.

The guiding principle in all aspects of our parish administration is that the task is done best when it is shared - and that everyone has a contribution to make.
